Hiding Machine Marks & Lines

Consistent Cosmetic Finish:

An inherent challenge with the anodizing process is that it cannot "cover up" imperfections in the substrate or remove scratches, extrusion lines, variations in bead blasting, etc.

Challenge:

Achieving a cosmetic finish for customer parts with the caustic etch process created variations in the finish and made it difficult to manage the overall results, including dimensional tolerance.

Action:
Alpha implemented a new acid etch process and began offering the option to customers looking for a finish that can hide machine marks, extrusion lines, scratches or other substrate imperfections.

Result:
Alpha's acid etch process provides a very appealing and cosistent matte finish to customers while maintaining dimensional tolerance.
